In April 2011, over 340 participants with interests across the food supply chain came together in Melbourne to share ideas that could inform a vision for Australia's food system in 2030. This was the largest and most diverse gathering of Australian food and agriculture practitioners on the topic of sustainability to date. The Congress generated extraordinary consensus amongst diverse interest groups for the need to collaborate and continue the conversations necessary to transform Australia's food system.

2012 will be pivotal for Australian food policy - with the National Food Strategy due for release. It is also appropriately the Year of the Farmer and Year of the Cooperative. 3 Pillars Network will be convening the 2nd Annual Sustainable Food Summit in Sydney from 2-4 April.

The Summit will seek to:

  • Explore the issues and policy discussion thus far - including an update on the National Food Plan Strategy
  • Showcase some of the transformational discussions and projects already happening in Australia and overseas
  • Identify business model shifts, potential production opportunities and solutions, environmental shapers and what kinds of R&D, policy and technology might enable a move to a resilient, sustainable food system for Australia.
