2012 Co-operative Leadership Awards

Nominations now open

The search is on for Australia's outstanding co-operators. The first ever national Co-operative Leadership Awards opened for nominations this week, to be presented at the IYC National Conference in October.

There are two categories of leadership awarded:

  • A 'legacy' award recognising the contribution of a longstanding co-operative practitioner; and
  • A youth award (the Future Leaders Award) presented to a young person (16–30 years of age) who demonstrates excellence in co-operation making them an inspirational role model for others.

Head to the Awards website to learn more and nominate Australia's leading co-operators! Nominations close Monday, 3 September 2012, so submit your nominations ASAP!

IYC 2012 National Conference (24-25 October)

IYC Conference secures Mondragon speaker Mikel Lezamiz

The IYC 2012 National Conference (24–25 October) has added another exciting co-operative heavyweight to its growing list of speakers.

Mikel Lemiz, Director of Co-operative Dissemination at Mondragon, will speak of the success of co-operatives in building strong national economies. Mondragon, a federation of worker co-operatives, is Spain's fourth largest industrial and seventh largest financial group.

New look online newsletter from the New Zealand Cooperatives Association

The New Zealand Cooperatives Association has launched a new look online newsletter. View the first issue which features an interview with Jack Wilkinson, a keynote speaker at the October National Conference.

Australia's first National Co-operatives Fortnight is on from 10–24 September 2012. The theme is "Open Doors".

Peter Russell-Clarke features food co-operatives on A Current Affair

Peter Russell-Clarke last week detailed the advantages of sourcing groceries from local food co-operatives in a segment on A Current Affair (ACA). Watch the segment on the ACA website

Money Magazine Awardbankmecu wins Money Magazine Award

Australia's first customer owned bank, bankmecu, last week took home the Socially Responsible Institution of the Year Award as part of Money Magazine's Consumer Finance Awards 2012.

bankmecu's Managing Director, Damien Walsh, welcomed the recognition, saying it was an acknowledgement of co-operative's commitment to creating shared value on behalf of their customers and the community.
